On June 2, Academy Park High School proudly welcomed U.S. Congresswoman Mary Gay Scanlon for a special visit with Advanced Placement Government and U.S. History classes. Students had a rare opportunity to engage in thoughtful dialogue about national policy, public service, and the impact of youth voices in our democracy. We’re incredibly grateful to Congresswoman Scanlon for taking the time to inspire the next generation of changemakers with her insight, experience, and passion for public service. A special shoutout to AP Government senior Keyarra Barley, whose initiative and leadership helped make this visit happen!

Congratulations to the Academy Park High School Boys Track Team for qualifying for the New Balance National Championships! 🏃 The following student-athletes will compete in a variety of team events: 🌟 Joshua Dean 🌟 Conway Evans 🌟 Dalil Washington 🌟 Maurice Richardson 🌟 Treyvon Harrison-Woods 🌟 Tayvion Bell The competition will take place June 19-22 at Franklin Field at the University of Pennsylvania. On May 22, Academy Park High School had the honor of welcoming PA State Representative Heather Boyd to campus! 💙💛 Representative Boyd spoke to an Advanced Placement Government class about the importance of civic engagement, the role of state government, and how young people can shape their communities. Our students were engaged, curious, and inspired. This visit was a powerful way to connect classroom learning with real-world leadership. Hawa Konate won the Keystone test raffle for “Principal of the Day” at Academy Park High School! On May 30, she stepped into the role of 11th Grade Assistant Principal. Ms. Hawa got a glimpse into the fast-paced daily routine of an APHS administrator. She visited classrooms, answered phone calls from teachers, handed out (fake) detentions, and more. After an hour on the job, she realized just how busy and demanding the role can be and was ready to clock out! Teachers praised her for being a great Assistant Principal! 🎉

On May 22, Southeast Delco School District hosted a special event at Sharon Hill Elementary in partnership with Read Alliance (READ), the PA Chamber Foundation, and the Delaware County Chamber of Commerce. 📚 The event highlighted our district’s pilot of READ’s powerful dual-impact program, which improves early literacy for K-2 students while providing paid tutoring jobs for high schoolers. Many Teen Leaders returned to their former elementary school to give back where it all began. 💙 With support from caring teachers and a structured, phonics-based curriculum, students are gaining reading skills, confidence, and career readiness. Thank you to Superintendent Dr. Yamil Sanchez and the entire SE Delco team for bringing this vision to life and investing in student success at every level! 👏
